I am going to start a Practical Translation (English-Hindi-English) Series in the interest of trainee translators. I shall be trying my best to post Practical Translation Exercises on this blog regularly. Proposed translation (Key) of practical translation exercise will also be made available in the below Comments box. You may also furnish your translation and comments on my proposed translation in the below Comments box. I hope this effort will be beneficial for translation-trainees.
PRACTICAL TRANSLATION EXERCISE - 01
A non-governmental organization (NGO) is an organization that is neither a part of a government nor conventional for profit business. The term “non-governmental organization” was first coined in 1945, when the United Nations (UN) was created. The UN, itself an inter-governmental organization, made it possible for certain approved specialized international non-state agencies, i.e. non-governmental organizations to be awarded observer status at its assemblies and some of its meetings. Later the term became used more widely. Today, according to the UN, any kind of private organization that is independent from government control can be termed an “NGO”, provided it is not for- profit, non prevention, and not simply an opposition political party. Examples include improving the state of the natural environment, encouraging the observance of human rights, improving the welfare of the disadvantaged, or representing a corporate agenda. However, there are a huge number of such organizations and their goals cover a broad range of political and philosophical positions. This can also easily be applied to private schools and athletic organizations.

गैर-सरकारी संगठन (एनजीओ) वह संगठन होता है जो न तो किसी सरकार का हिस्सा होता है और न ही लाभ का व्यवसाय करता है। ‘’गैर-सरकारी संगठन’’ शब्द 1945 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र (यूएन) के गठन के समय गढ़ा गया था। यूएन स्वयं एक अंतर-सरकारी संगठन है, जिसने कुछ अनुमोदित विशेषज्ञ अंतर्राष्ट्रीय गैर-सरकारी एजेंसियों अर्थात् गैर-सरकारी संगठनों को इनकी सभाओं और इनकी कुछ बैठकों में पर्यवेक्षक का दर्जा देना संभव बनाया था। बाद में यह शब्द व्यापक स्तर पर इस्तेमाल किया जाने लगा। आज, यूएन के अनुसार, किसी प्रकार का निजी संगठन जो सरकारी नियंत्रण से स्वतंत्र होता है उसे ‘’एनजीओ’’ कहा जा सकता है, बशर्ते यह किसी लाभ के लिए नहीं हो, प्रतिबंधित नहीं हो तथा न ही सामान्य तौर पर कोई विपक्षी राजनीतिक दल हो। उदाहरणों में प्राकृतिक पर्यावरण की स्थिति में सुधार करना, मानवाधिकारों के पालन को बढ़ावा देना, वंचित लोगों के कल्याण में सुधार करना, अथवा कारपोरेट एजेंडा दर्शाना शामिल है। तथापि, भारी संख्या में ऐसे संगठन हैं और उनके लक्ष्य राजनीतिक तथा दार्शनिक स्थितियों की व्यापक श्रृंखला को कवर करते हैं। इसे निजी स्कूलों तथा एथलेटिक संगठनों पर भी आसानी से लागू किया जा सकता है।
